According to reports, an upgrade to the iPod Touch will also be unveiled on the same date as well as a new iPod Nano.

Sources reveal that the iPhone 5 would come with a 4-inch, 16:9 screen and a smaller Dock connector with a headphone jack. The current 30-pin port will be reduced to just 19 pins allowing more space at the bottom for the headphone jack, which is currently located at the top of the iPhone.

Thinner Screen

iPhone 5

Reports from Wall Street reveal that the iPhone 5 will incorporate “in-cell technology.” This new feature allows the consolidation of touch sensors and LCD into a single layer. The technology is already being used by LCD screen manufacturers such as Sharp, LG Display, and Japan Display.

Smaller Sim

Already European wireless carriers are already stockpiling nano-SIMs in preparation for the coming of the next iPhone model. Used in the first iPad, this would pave the way for a bigger battery in the iPhone 5.

Center Camera

Photos released by Taiwan-based blog Apple.pro revealed an iPhone camera that is as wide as the iPhone 4S but much taller. The iPhone 5 will come with a 4-inch display with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

Powerful Processor

The iPhone 5 will utilize a quad-core ARM processor based on Samsung’s Exynos 4 architecture.

NFC capable

The blog site 9to5Mac hinted that the iPhone 5 is NFC-capable already. Incorporated in Android Devices for Google Wallet and Android Beam, Apple is likely to join the mobile payment bandwagon as well. Apple is launching Passbook, an iOS app that allows users to save electronic versions of receipts, tickets, and other merchant information.

The iPad Mini, on the other hand, will be available in the market by October 2012. The latest version of the iPad, from the name itself will be much smaller at 7 to 8 inches diagonally. Sources say that it could cost from $200 to $250. Even with the smaller screen, the mini iPad will use a similar Retina display as the iPhone 4S and the new iPad.
