The Samsung Premiere Event 2013 was held a week ago and the highlight of the night, of course, are the three new variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4. This is a welcome move from Samsung as it gives consumers more choices not only in terms of price but also in niche. The three new variants have specific target users and this is pretty obvious from the added features that each one is getting.
Now, let us take a look at the new Samsung Galaxy S4 variants and see what to expect from each one:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
Samsung is taking a stab at the outdoor phone market ruled by the Sony Xperia series. Like the Xperia devices, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is dust and water proof. The phone can be submerged up to 1 meter depth of water for about 30 minutes. Aside from making it water proof, Samsung also added an aqua mode to its camera, allowing it to take pictures underwater. These features make the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active a perfect companion to the beach. It will probably be old at about $600 because it retains much of the specs of the original Galaxy S4 phone including the 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon chipset, 2GB of RAM, and Jellybean 4.2.2. Spec-wise, the only difference is the 8MP rear camera, which is a 13MP shooter on the original Galaxy S4.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
Like the Galaxy S3 Mini, the Galaxy S4 Mini is the little sister of the original Galaxy S4 hardware spec-wise. It features a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display instead of the 5-inch HD AMOLED screen, a 1.7 GHz dual-core chip instead of a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 8GB internal memory instead of the minimum 16GB, and an 8MP shooter instead of a 13MP camera. While it is still a very capable phone that can perform most of heavy tasks like 3D games, VoIP (get more information about VOIP), and video streaming, it is still far from the capabilities of the super powerful Samsung Galaxy S4. As a result of the clearly inferior spec sheet, the S4 Mini is expected to be sold at a significantly lower price as a more budget-friendly alternative to the expensive original Galaxy S4.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is clearly designed for those who are seeking better cameras on their smartphones. What will immediately grab your attention with this smartphone is the large 16MP sensor at the back. This is for the 10x optical zoom capability of the rear camera meant for those long distance photos. Inside, it has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 4.3 inch HD display, and Samsung’s TouchWiz Nature UX skin. It also includes a Xenon flash for low light picture taking. This is basically a digital camera with smartphone capabilities. There is no price yet for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom but is expected to be slightly above the price of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.
Together with the original Samsung Galaxy S4 and Google’s own pure Jellybean version, there will be 5 available variations of the hottest phone in the market. So, which do you think is the best Samsung Galaxy S4 for you? Sound off in the comments section.
